A Very Short (True) Story

There was singing coming from one of the flats; a woman’s voice, low and cracked, but strong enough that he could hear it from the footpath. Halting mid-stride, he cocked his head to listen - the words were foreign, but the tune… A bemused smile suddenly crossed his face as he realised that the quavering and alien voice was singing his country’s anthem. He continued walking, thoughts full of wonder.
