China, in retrospect

February 20th, 2007 by Fraser

It’s been a month since I got back to Christchurch, and frankly I haven’t felt like posting anything about the China trip - with all the talking about it I’ve done, sitting down to write about it (and having to re-size photos for posting) has seemed quite a chore.

But enough of this blog inactivity. Here beginneth the travel report.

January 11th - Mike and I flew to Sydney, where we met Chris and Hannah. I began the long process of getting used to wearing one of those uncomfortable money belt things. Spent most of the flight over reading Janet Frame’s short story collection, The Lagoon And Other Stories. I like her poetry better; her prose style is kind of stilted and unsettling (although evocative and original).

I discovered that major international airports are not immune to system crashes:

Although the free internet terminals - yes, this one crashed too - are at least running a decent OS.

Next stop: Shanghai.
