escape
I don’t think I’m cut out for modern (or even postmodern) society, with its audits and tax returns and warrants of fitness and dangerous voltages and telephones and to-do lists and local body elections and student loans and air travel and car travel and credit cards and cellphones and motorsport and soap operas…
I wonder, to what extent can I actually escape all of this? I’ve dealt with it thus far, and I expect I’ll have to continue dealing with it, but it would really be nice if I didn’t have to. If I could just be, without having to do and organise and comply and manage and qualify and explain.

Yeah. I’m doing my best to deal with these things as they annoy, but some things seem to be unavoidable unless you want to live as an outlaw fugitive. (Death and taxes, as it goes…)

Unfortunately, that list has been added to substantially since 1789.

You could become rich, and pay specialists to take care of some of that stuff for you?

lol, it kinda reminds me of Samoa. My uncle used to have this big truck. The key got stuck in the ignition and broke off so they keep a fork in there to start it up. Though they could afford to get proper tyres, they were too lazy so they got one from one of the old run down cars in the garage and it’s smaller than the others, so you have to drive it angled. It would never pass a warrant of fitness here.
I love the simplicity of village life. People are incredibly nosey but it’s a practical lifestyle; maintain the house, grow some veges, and just be. Though it’s gradually conforming to the West which is kinda sad.
Such is life I suppose.
I’d suggest a tropical island village as a means to escape and just be… but then that means air travel. I’d lend you a canoe but I don’t think we use those anymore

I have been advocating the tropical island idea for some weeks now , due to the messiness of modern life, but looks like it could be harder than I envisioned Lani!
I’ve been tossing up the idea of tropical island vs going Amish though …. at least with the amish one my house gets built for me.
