My name

November 6th, 2007 by Fraser

Sometimes, I look at my name written down and don’t recognise it. This word is a stranger to me. When I think about myself, I don’t label myself with the written descriptor “Fraser”, or even the collection of sounds associated with it, which I can represent phonetically as something like ['fræezɘ]. It’s a very weird feeling remembering who I am to other people.

A feeling much like looking in a mirror?

So know what you mean! I also find it weird, since I have a few different names that different groups of friends call me by, when one of them gets used outside its normal context, and it sounds so very alien and like a different me. Sort of highlights the fact that none of my names is quite me.

Whoops, the phonetic symbols don’t seem to render properly in Windows.
